Dean Surface is the Assistant Director of Bands at Timber Creek High School in Fort Worth, TX. He began his career over 20 years ago in Keller ISD and moved to Trinity Springs Middle School upon its opening in 2006. Under Mr. Surface’s direction, the TSMS Wind Ensemble has been awarded Superior ratings at UIL, Peak Festivals, Ovation band contests and the Beach Within Reach festivals. They have also been awarded as outstanding ensemble and best in class at these various contests. The TSMS Wind Ensemble has also been awarded as National Winners in the Mark of Excellence band contest numerous times. The TSMS Wind Ensemble has performed at the Music for All National Band Festival in Indianapolis and has been featured performers on the local Classical station 101.1 WRR and Channel 5 NBC news.
Mr. Surface is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association. He has guest conducted honor groups throughout the Texas and DFW area, and is a faculty member at the Baylor Summer Music Camp. He has presented clinics for fellow KISD teachers and has previously served as the TMEA Region Middle School Band Coordinator elect, and TMEA Region 30 and 2 Middle School Band Technology Coordinator. On his campus Mr. Surface serves on the leadership council. Mr. Surface is a member of the Texas Music Adjudicators Association and adjudicates Pre-UIL, UIL, and various festivals in the DFW area. He has also presented clinics at the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and The Midwest Clinic and Concert as well as Young Educators Seminars in Texas.
Mr. Surface holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Baylor University and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Texas Woman’s University.
Mr. Surface resides in Keller with his wonderful wife, Courtney, and his two beautiful daughters, Kennedy and Mckinley. Courtney teaches music at Ridgeview Elementary, and his daughters play French horn and oboe.
