Daniel Malacon

Born and raised in Katy, Texas, Daniel Malacon is a woodwind specialist, educator, and conductor. In 2017, Mr. Malacon joined Timber Creek High School as an assistant band directors. He oversees the success of the Wind Ensemble, co-teaches the Concert Band, Jazz Band, and the chamber music program.

Leading the saxophone ensemble in 2019, the group performed at the Texas Music Educators Association for a showcase performance. Shortly after, the saxophone ensemble was invited to perform at the 73rd International Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Malacon holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Baylor University with an emphasis in clarinet studies. He trained under a multitude of clarinet professors: Dr. Richard Shanley, Dr. Vanguel Tangarov, Allan Olson, Philip May, and Dr. Jin Qian to name a few. At Baylor, Mr. Malacon focused heavily on performing in many platforms ranging from large ensembles to solo orchestral competitions. As a member of the Baylor Wind Ensemble and the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, he performed at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference and the College Band Directors National Association Conference, as well as in local campus concerts. Additionally, he was assistant-principal clarinet in the Waco Symphony Orchestra during his later years of undergraduate studies. Mr. Malacon made appearances with the Austin Civic Orchestra and the Corpus Christi Symphony. In the summer of 2013, he earned a spot as a finalist for the International Clarinet Association’s Solo Orchestral Excerpts Competition in Assisi, Italy. He placed second out of the six finalists chosen from around the world. Shortly after graduation, he returned to Baylor to pursue a Master’s degree in Wind Band Conducting under the guidance of Dr. Eric Wilson. Mr. Malacon served as a guest conductor for all the performing ensembles within the school of music. He assisted with the Golden Wave Marching Band and the pep bands for Volleyball and Basketball.

Mr. Malacon has been nominated by a Top 10 senior at Timber Creek high school for the Rising Star Inspirational Teacher, two years in a row. Mr. Malacon is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Jazz Education Association, National Association for Music Education, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

When Mr. Malacon is not at work, he likes to participate in autocross motorsport events and enjoys spending time with his dog, Maestro.
